Barluga Restaurant

Earlier this year, we celebrated my sister’s birthday at Barluga in Newcastle, and it was such a memorable experience.

The first thing that caught my attention as we arrived was the massive, elegant glass doors. Stepping inside, I was immediately struck by the restaurant’s stunning décor. High ceilings, glimmering chandeliers casting soft light across the walls, sleek leather chairs, flowing drapes, and an open kitchen – the whole atmosphere felt like walking into a luxurious five-star hotel.

Despite its grandeur, there was something wonderfully welcoming about the space. Its understated elegance gave it a refined, luxury dining vibe, yet it still managed to feel warm, cosy, and, dare I say, even a little intimate.

The staff at Barluga were some of the loveliest I’ve ever encountered – warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The food was also surprisingly well-priced, especially considering the upscale atmosphere.

Now, I’ll be honest – I’m not usually the biggest fan of traditional British cuisine. My taste leans more toward rich, bold, and spicy flavours (think Korean, Asian, or African dishes – that’s where my heart is!). But I have to admit, their food was as impressive as the surroundings. To my surprise, the dishes were far more flavourful than I expected, and the portion sizes were generous, which is always a win.

I’ve had my fair share of steak experiences, and let’s just say not all have been great. Some places do a decent job, while others have left me vowing never to trust their steaks again. Given those past disappointments, I was a bit hesitant when my sister urged me to try the steak here. But since I trust her taste in food, I gave it a shot – and I’m so glad I did. It was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The food and drinks were fantastic, the portions were spot on, and the service was exceptional. It’s easy to see why Barluga is considered one of the best British restaurants in Newcastle. I’d definitely recommend it – if you get the chance, do check it out!
